Haitian Boat Project

Design Challenge: The $2,500 Sail-driven Fishing Boat

Sails for Sustenance challenges designers to design a sail-driven boat that will improve the lives of fishers in Haiti.

Sails for Sustenance is a non-profit organization that recycles and brings sails to Haitian fishers to help them to fish more safely and further from the shore. In partnership with the College of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of New Orleans, the organization has started an international design competition to design a simple and affordable boat powered by sail or oar to meet the needs of Haitian fishers.
